Das KLOESTERLE
At the heart of Carinthia
At the heart of Carinthia,
at the sunny south side of the Alps
Only a stone’s throw away from the valley station of the KLOESTERLE Lift, on a sunny hill lies this small former catholic monastery – and it’s DEPENDANCE. The buildings were recently refurbished under strict supervision of the Austrian monument authority.
The former monastery is now a private residence. In the adjacent baroque church holy mass is celebrated periodically – mainly during the summer month. The DEPENDANCE is situated directly at the premises of the KLÖSTERLE – and it is available for holiday rental. After the completed renovation, the DEPENDANCE now combines the charm of baroque walls with state of the art modern comfort.

A little bit of history:
Under the reign of empress Maria Theresia the KLOESTERLE was erected around the year 1750 in order to convert the so called “secret protestants” of the region back to catholic religion. At the time, four monks of the Order of St. Jerome were living here. When Emperor Joseph II succeeded his mother on the throne, he instantly privileged religious tolerance to stimulate prosperity – and the KLOESTERLE lost its role. It then became presbytery, school, shop and residence to the local population. In the 19th century, the KLOESTERLE was famous for its gillyflowers that were said to be “more beautiful than those of San Remo”. Before being refurbished to become a chalet, the DEPENDANCE was a stable and a smokehouse.
Skiing fun!
Right in front of the chalet is the sunny Gerlitzen ski resort with its breathtaking panorama view and its beautiful slopes on 40 kilometers of well-groomed pistes and 16 modern ski lifts.
Hiking paradise:
Start your hike from the house. Explore the mountains and lakes of the region and discover the typical traditional historic farmhouses. Be enchanted by a walk to the fairy tale like springs of the Tiebel river that was – and still is – so important for prosperity of the region.
